Supporting the Development of Young Children and Families

We are proud to share that our Parents as Teachers (PAT) program was just made an affiliate by the national PAT organization. This affiliation certificate comes after months of work and meeting 20 essential requirements as a high-quality service provider. Since 1994, Sunshine School has worked with families and young children to help them reach their full potential through the PAT program.

The PAT program has four components: personal visits, group connections, screenings, and resource referrals. Together, these components serve the whole family, not just the child. Our Parent Educators use researched-based practices to help equip families to be their child’s first teacher.

Because of the PAT program and the work of our Parent Educators, we consistently see the achievement gap narrowed, better parenting skills, and families becoming more involved in their child’s education and development. In the past 10 years, Sunshine School’s PAT program has worked with 262 families and 324 children. We’ve done 4530 home visits and completed 849 vision and audiology screenings. In addition, we’ve held 68 PAT University session where group connections can be made, resources are given, and our PAT families build community. We look forward to the next 10 years as we invest in this program that builds strong communities, thriving families and children who are healthy, safe and ready to learn!
